Indie 2012

After seven years of great racing the paramount Cross Country Racing series in the state of Washington may have finally come to an end. This year we again lost two great venues with the Bavarian Bike & Brew Fest and the Methow Mountain Challenge opting out of the series to join and Central Washington series.

Here at the Indie we are not quite sure what to do and ask for your input. Good venues are hard to find and our long standing goal was to provide some venues east of the mountains. Unfortunately it no longer looks like an option to bring you Eastern Washington races with the current series structure. So we ask of you all-Is it time for the West Indie Series? Most all of the feedback we have heard is racer would be disappointed to see the Indie Series go by the wayside and would like it to continue in one form or another.

There are venues that we could make happen on relatively short notice if the racing public wants to see the series happen.

One race that will happen for sure is the 20th Annual Padden MTN Pedal-the longest standing mountain bike race in the state of Washington is set for July 14th, 2012 . To celebrate our 20th year we have moved the race day to Saturday so we can have an awesome post race party AND show off the rest of the world class mountain bike riding here in Bellingham. We will have FREE roup rides that will head out into Galbraith Mountain, The Chuckanut Mountains and Blanchard Mountain. You won't want to miss this great weekend of fun here in Whatcom County.

If you have input-ideas or potential venues please email JLIB_HTML_CLOAKING .

Thanks again for all your support over these years.

Methow Cycle & Sport Mountain Challenge In the Books

alt6th Annual Methow Cycle & Sport Mountain Challenge June 25th, 2011

Loup Loup Ski Bowl hosted the Mountain Challenge for the second year, offering up a great venue with nice amenities and a scenic backdrop for the weekend. The race is a fundraiser for the Loup Loup Ski Education Foundation specifically for mountain bike trail development at the Loup. Local vendors donated product to raise funds: Blue Star Coffee Roasters, Twisp River Pub, Rocking Horse Bakery and Thompson Meats offered up local coffee, beer, baked goods and brats for everyone. The course had a number of improvements over last year--new singletrack sections including banked turns, rock features and fun descents. With just a number of weeks to prepare the course because of late snow, the outcome was impressive.

Racer were greeted by perfect racing weather--mostly sunny and moderate temperatures. The beginners completed an arduous 8.1 mile loop that featured most of the same singletrack of the longer loop. Sports completed one lap of the long loop and tbe experts and open categories tackled two laps of the very tough 13.1 mile loop. After the adult categories, we had a fantastic kids event--even featured a few kids on balance bikes riding through the race venue to the cheering of the crowd.

In the end, we raffled off a ton of race schwag and we all enjoyed some local brews and food. Best of all, we all collectively put some money towards more trails at Loup Loup. Since the conclusion of the race, we've heard a steady stream of positive comments about the course and the race. More to come next year.

Thanks to all who came!

Joe & Julie, Methow Cycle & Sport

2011 Dry Hill XC Results

They Olympic Dirt Society put on a great race out in Port Angeles and there were rave reviews for the "Old School XC" course that included some steep climbs and an arm pumping 2 1/2 mile descent per lap. Great organization, a sweet music mix and tasty pasta kept everyone happy. Thanks to all that came out to the Indie Series opener.

The 14th Annual Bavarian Bike and Brew Festival was once again an huge success. The weather was perfect racing temperatures and everyone was fired up to see the sun and race on some fast dry trails.

The beer garden and bands rocked as usual and a good time was had by one and all. A great event an excellent promotion made for a stellar weekend.
